Sarah McLennan is an emerging dance artist and movement instructor based out of Toronto, Ontario and is a graduate of the Performance Dance Program at Ryerson University. In the past year, Sarah has been working at developing her point of view as a movement instructor teaching various dance styles to a variety of different age groups and abilities while completing her Mat Pilates Teacher Training at the Mindful Movement Centre.
Throughout her dance training, Sarah had the privilege to work with many esteemed dance artists from the Toronto community including: Alysa Pires, James Kudelka, and Heidi Strauss. In addition to her post-secondary training at Ryerson University, she was lucky to have the opportunity to train outside of Canada at Alonzo King Lines Ballet (San Francisco, USA), Northwest Dance Project (Portland, USA), and the Movement Invention Project (New York City, USA). Since graduating from Ryerson, Sarah has performed in Toronto with dance companies Gadfly and Pepper Dance Projects. With an interest in creation as well as performance, Sarah is looking forward to continuing her pursuit of a career as a contemporary dance artist and choreographer.
Sarah was introduced to the classical Pilates method throughout her dance training, but only in her university career discovered Pilates as a tool for cross training and rehabilitation. In her own movement practice, Pilates has given Sarah the agency to listen to her body and helped her commit to moving in a mindful way. With an interest in anatomy, her movement practice strives to empower movers to strengthen and care for their bodies. Sarah would love to work with athletes and dancers to develop a Pilates practice to support their unique bodies moving through physically demanding lifestyles.
